Title: Black Widow Demon
Author: Paula Altenburg
Genre: Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Date of Publication: November 26th, 2013

Book Description:
Passionate and headstrong, half-demon Raven is nearly executed on the orders of her fundamentalist stepfather. She escapes from the burning stake using the gifts of her otherworldly heritage and the help of a mortal stranger named Blade. Now she’s set on revenge, and only quiet, intense Blade stands in her way.

A retired assassin weary of the weight of his past, Blade has crossed the desert to seek out a new life. His journey is interrupted when his conscience demands he help Raven find an old friend who can help her. Saving her from her need for revenge and delivering her into the hands of loved ones means he’s one step closer to redemption.

But as Blade’s sense of duty becomes something more and threats, both mortal and immortal, stalk the woman he can’t abandon, he could very well fall back into the life he’s trying so hard to escape.

Interview:

1. What inspired you to write this book?
Black Widow Demon is the second book in the Demon Outlaws series. The first was The Demon’s Daughter, which released in March 2013. The third and final book, The Demon Creed, will release in May 2014. I started the series because I wanted to write a fantasy, a western, a romance, and a futuristic paranormal and couldn’t make up my mind. I rolled them all into one and got the Demon Outlaws trilogy. I have to say, it’s a world I love.

2. What characters do you connect with most?
In my own books? The heroes. Definitely. I live in a household of men and I’m constantly trying to figure out where their heads are, so I guess I put more effort into those characters. They choose the heroine best suited to them. Sometimes I question their taste.

3. What's your favorite book-turned movie?
Hunger Games! I loved the books and I love Jennifer Lawrence as the choice for Katniss. In my head, she’s exactly who I saw. I can hardly wait for a chance to see Catching Fire.

4. If you could be best friends with one of your characters, who would it be?
Hmm. In all honesty? Blade and Raven are both very dark, intense characters who don’t make friends easily. I don’t think either of them would trust me enough for us to be friends, although I love them both dearly. They mostly rely on each other. I’m going to go for a secondary character in Black Widow Demon who becomes the hero in book 3. His name is Creed and he’s pretty sociable. He’d make room in his life for me. He likes to take care of women and I like to be taken care of, so I think he and I could be good friends.

5. Can you tell us about any other books you're writing?
Certainly! 2014 is going to be a busy year for me. I’m currently working on edits for book 3, The Demon Creed (coming in May), and I have a series of fantasy novellas and an associated full-length novel I’m writing that I’m hoping to publish by the end of next year. I have another paranormal romance coming from Entangled (I think in September?) that’s a Cowboys and Aliens story and I love it! It’s got some humor to it. I’m also working on a short contemporary because I write for Entangled Bliss as well.

6. What do you do in your spare time?
I like to run so that eats up a lot of spare time. I also read and watch a lot of movies. I’m an introvert so it takes a lot to convince me to get out of my house. If I didn’t have to go to the grocery store I’d never go anywhere.

7. Who's your inspiration?
Do you mean who do I want to be when I grow up? I want to be a cross between Joss Whedon, George R.R. Martin, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, and Madeline Hunter. I love good writing. It doesn’t matter to me what genre. It’s the writing that matters. For instance, I really loved The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy because it was clever, although it was depressing and I prefer happy endings so I’d never read it twice. That’s why I write romance. But if the book is well written, I’ll read anything once just to admire the way it’s constructed.

8. If you were stranded on a desert island which character do you want by your side?
Easy. I’m taking Blade from Black Widow Demon. He’s Survivor Man.

9. Team Edward or Jacob?
Jacob. Edward gives me the creeps. At least you can have a good fight with Jacob and he doesn’t walk away from it as if he’s taking the high road. I can’t see Jacob “watching over me” in my sleep, either. *Shivers*

10. Team Peeta or Gale?
Gale. Same reason as above. I like my men flawed but not creepy, and not better people than me. They can be prettier, though.

11. What are you reading now?
I read in more than one genre so I usually have several books on the go, depending on my mood. Right now I’m reading Bound by Night by Larissa Ione and A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin. I’m also reading His Reluctant Rancher by Roxanne Snopek. She and a few other Entangled authors are auto-buys for me because I love their voices. If you want to find out who they are, I stalk them on Facebook and Twitter. (I mean, I “friend and follow” them. Leave me alone, FBI and CSIS.)
